NASA Raves

The Cowboys have been part of some pretty cool things for sure, leading the SF Love Parade three years in a row or increasing the risk of an avalanche at Squaw are just a couple that come to mind. But this past Friday, April 13th, 2007 has to be one of the more surreal ones. In honor of Yuri’s Night, the NASA Ames Research Center down at Moffett Field flung the doors wide open on the 211 Hangar and invited an eclectic mix of the science/tech community to mingle with Burner culture. Feeling a bit like a science fair and a lot like the playa with robots, art and a couple big planes for the hell of it, the night was more fun than an erector set on acid!

The Mog was in full effect on the tarmac and anytime she’s out, there’s always lots of curious bystanders peeking their heads in, asking questions and commenting on how neat she is. The difference this time was a lot of those inquisitive strangers were NASA officials and security which made it that much cooler. The general good spirits of everyone at NASA was impressive, they all seemed to have a great sense of humor and were very welcoming to the revelers. As for the party itself, the Cowboys “sound” was a great counter-balance to the headliners Plaid and Tefon tel Aviv, who are a little more chill than our standard fare. Once we were allowed to go full blast with her after midnight, it was pretty sweet to see just as many people shakin’ their thang in front of the Mog as there were inside the hangar.

The Cowboys have had close ties to Yuri’s Night since it’s inception, due to the fact that HellDog’s own sister Loretta and husband George are the founders. Needless to say we were more than excited for an excuse to party at NASA! It was very cool to be part of such a unique event and it sounds like this wont be the last time.

Here’s to you Yuri Gagarin, the original Space Cowboy!
