Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 5: Trav
Another bait and switch mix—it’s true that Seismic’s Trav did play live at Ghost Ship, but this set isn’t that exact set. Not sure what the gremlins did exactly with that recording, but we’re happy to have this mix from the Plump DJs party at Mighty as a replacement (thanks again to Zach Moore).
About this mix Trav says:It was a thrill to close Mighty for the Mighty Plump DJs @ their Global Underground CD release party. My set started at 3am, the floor was packed, and people were seething, frothing, and generally ackin’ the fool. I cut my DJ teeth on hard, funky breaks, so it was great to bring those back for a furious dancefloor. The set closes out with a couple mellow tracks—no need to push people’s faces into the cheese grater until the last track—gave them something peaceful to head home with. I don’t play these types of sets often, so enjoy!Track list:
- Plump DJs – Get Kinky (unreleased coco-supahfly remix)
- The Booty Bouncers – Get Dirty Baby (Friendly Remix)
- Aquasky – Have a Good Time feat. Acafool

Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 5: Murphstar
That’s right, it’s time for another installment of Live from Ghost Ship, this time with DJ Murphstar.
Actually, this recording is from the Plump DJs show a couple weeks ago. See, we had this little problem during the recording of Murphstar’s Ghost Ship set, but thanks to some fast thinking, Zach Moore managed to plug a recorder in the mixer at Murph’s next gig, and voila!
Zach posted this mix earlier in the week to his Gough Street Sessions podcast, and he had this to say about it….
Not only is MurphStar a phenomenal DJ in his own right (I’ve heard him play on a dozen occasions at least and he’s never failed to whip the dance floor into an absolute frenzy), he’s also well-known for bringing some of the best international talent from the world of breakbeat to San Francisco. Murph was at it again on November 20th as his crew, Seismic, welcomed the venerable Plump DJs to Mighty to celebrate their much-anticipated CD release on the Global Underground label.
Murph wasted no time lathering up a dedicated dance crowd for the Plumps and, amazingly, I was able to record his entire opening set!!! If you know Murph (or me), you may also be familiar with the long, sad saga of many failed attempts on my part (due to technical difficulties or drunkenness) to record his live sets. But the DJ gods must have been smiling on us that evening because the recording went off without a hitch. And I have no doubt you’ll find yourself grinning from ear to ear, and bobbing your head, to this tasty breakbeat set from MurphStar. Enjoy!

Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 4: H8ball
We have a little Thanksgiving treat for you, Friendly Person. The latest installment of the Ghost Ship mixes is from yours truly, 8ball, and lemme tell you, this mix is going to be the perfect compliment for your holiday dining. I don’t want to oversell this, but I think it’s fair to say that if you download this mix and drop it on mom and pop’s stereo at dinner tomorrow you will definitely get their attention. Maybe even in a good way!
I know there are a lot of rumors out that about 8ball, and it’s sometimes hard to know what to believe, how to separate the truth from the truthy. So, I’ll take this moment to set the record straight. Yes, I am the longest serving member of Space Cowboys. No, my DJ name is not a drug reference. Yes, it does seem a lot like a drug reference, but I swear it’s not. No, the guy who tried to burn the man a few years back wasn’t listening to Deckless Wonder vol. 3 on his iPod moments before he did it. Yes, I sharted at BoC and had to play my set and hang out for the rest of the party commando-style. And no, I don’t patrol the crime-ridden streets of San Francisco dolling out justice wearing a mask, a cape, and shirt cocking.
Now, where was I… Oh yeah. Here’s my Ghost Ship set. I went with breaks for this party, mainly because it’d been a while since I played a breaksy set. I had a strategy: since the party was called Ghost Ship I had to play “I’m On a Boat” and since it was Halloween I had to play “Thriller”. And I played some other stuff, because if I’d just played those 2 songs for the full hour it might’ve been a little weird.

Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 3: Aaaron Pope
Aaron Pope’s been a long time friend and favorite of the Cowboys, so we’re exceptionally glad that the recorder didn’t bomb out on is set like it did for Murphstar’s (sorry Murph!).
Pope wrote us a short play-by-play of his Ghost Ship DJing experience…
This year’s Ghost Ship party was one of the better SF parties I’ve ever been involved with. When I took over the decks at 4am, the main floor was packed with screaming, bouncing, costumed silliness, and the energy was infectious. At one point I remember there being a row of self-appointed go-go dancers, dancing on the stage in front of me – until security shooed them off. Since I was closing out the room, and wanted to keep the crowd on the floor, I kept the music fun, rather than dark and bangin’. I played an eclectic mix of house, breaks and electro, including some original songs that that my partner Chad and have done. Before I knew it, it was 4:50am and security guy was there again, giving me the ‘cut-it’ sign. I reluctantly lowered the fader, thanked the crowd, and the party was over. I hope the live energy and fun of this set comes through in the recording, and please excuse the few, of less-than-perfect mixes.
The tracklisting for his set is…
1) Apollo 440 – Dude Descending a Staircase (Stanton Warrior Vocal Mix)
2) Skee Lo – I wish I Was Taller (Big Deal Remix)
3) Waveplant & Ernesto – Bassline (Chad North and Aaron Pope Remix)
