April Space Cowboy Annoucement

Posted by 8Ball Thu, 05 Apr 2007 17:30:00 GMT

Hello Friendly Person,

It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to write up one of our happy, witty, welcome and refreshing little Space Cowboy announcement emails. Last month I spent a couple weeks adventuring in the furthest corners of the Earth, and after that I delved deep into the wondrous and exciting world of project deadlines at work. In the interim my mind has been bubbling over with pithy and irreverent concepts for how to start these announcements, all of them filled with tangential references to obscure events and people that only some of you will know followed by a good humored jab at one of the many silly idiosyncrasies exhibited by our friends in the scene, particularly when their higher than balls on a giraffe. It would’ve been an apt intro, I’m sure, but only a few folks would’ve got it, and I’m sure it would’ve alienated a much larger segment of the audience, so instead I decided to reach out to the lowest common denominator with a simple message I know everyone can get behind: “Eat More Pussy, Bitches!”

Listings for this announcement include info about our next installment of Fresh, held this Friday at Shine, curated this month by Cheeks (and then she hits the road for several months in search of her spirit animal). Also, a new mix from Aaron Jae, and a link to The Geometrist’s mix from back at BoC.

Also, and perhaps MOST IMPORTANT, there’s a message from your favorite Space Cowboy house-rockin’ DJ and Unimog sound engineer, Brad Robinson, about a very troubling matter involving the wrongful conviction and imprisonment in Nicaragua of one of Brad’s friends.

XO, 8ball@spacecowboy.org

PLEASE READ, PLEASE HELP

Space Cowboy Brad Robinson says:

“Please take a minute to read the below message and view the video on youtube. This is a very sad scenario. This is a friend of a friend that I went to college with in Nashville , TN.

First, let me thank you for taking the time to read this message. I am reaching out to urge you to become involved in the story of Eric Volz – a young man sentenced to 30 years in prison in Nicaragua for a crime he didn’t commit.

I’ve become deeply passionate about this case, as he is a dear family friend and has been an older brother to me as far back as I can remember.

Follow this link and watch his story through video – it tells about the his struggle better than I ever could in writing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YChhOHrFA4

You can learn more about the case and donate to Eric’s legal defense at www.friendsofericvolz.com

Also, if you are a member of MySpace, you can add him as a friend at www.myspace.com/freeericvolz

Again, thank you for taking the time to read this. This has been a personal heartache and terrible injustice.

Forward the video on to everyone you know – and join me in the fight to FREE ERIC VOLZ.”

Just ‘cause we’re RIPE, doesn’t mean we don’t get soft and cuddly, and you know we’re always clean as a whistle (at least thats what we tell the 5-0). Come on out and see the softer side of the Space Cowboys at April’s installment of our new first fridays monthly, FRESH at Shine. Cheeks is heading out on a safari, so she’s putting together a special house music send-off, with a good chunk of the proceeds going to her favorite charity, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. So snuggle on down to Shine, Friday, April 6th for April Fresh you know you want to cuddle..

Life is & Upcoming Events & News

Hello Friendly Person:

Life is being righteous, to Hell with everyone else. It’s about never having to say you’re sorry, because you’re right and everyone else is going to Hell. Life is about being strong, and preaching love and salvation, but only for the people who aren’t going to Hell, people who are going to Hell can fuck right off. Life is also about being Strong, walking a narrow, goodly path, and choking down the urge to get frothy and sweaty with another man as if that urge were a little bit of upchuck that found its way into your mouth through an unexpected belch. Life is about denial of those torrid urges and wanton emotions that rule your dreams and drive you to distraction when you’re preaching to a choir of comely young lads, some of whom really do look like little angels…. Dirty, Dirty little angels. Life is about denying who you are, because of Hell and all, but eventually Life is about all that pent up sexual frustration, an irresistible force of nature, that swells and peaks and explodes in an act that God explicitly said you shouldn’t do, and now you’re going to Hell like everyone else. Life sucks, because now Life is about a jail in Albuquerque, where cops book a doped-up, yammering, fallen minister who was busted in flagrante delicto at a highway rest stop snorting high-speed-chicken-feed off the top of a john with a prostitute who uses the IM name ButterBunz1988 (the latter part referring to the year he was born, the former part referring to his rear, both apparent examples of truth in advertising). At that point Life is about a good lawyer. Then, Life’s about jokes on late night talk shows, reporters constantly calling, and relentless public shaming. Life is Hell. Until you come up with this brilliant idea: Life is about redemption! It’s about second chances, and more importantly, it’s about publicly announcing that, thanks to a short but highly effective respite in a recovery clinic, the irresistible force of nature no longer swells and you’re now cured of all sinful urges. Life is again about being righteous, to Hell with everyone else! Life is so easy.

Happy Valentine’s Day! 8ball@spacecowboys.org

N.A.F.P. (not another FUCKING poll!)

Posted by 8Ball Fri, 09 Feb 2007 00:53:00 GMT

Apparently polls are the new black for the 07 season here in San Frandisco—there’s the long-running Dreamteam poll, the infamous BoC poll (sorry about that one, folks!) and now there’s a poll to determine the line up of the second installment of Iron DJ at Supperclub.

Space Cowboy DJ Mancub is included on the list of local talent, so if you have a moment, I encourage you to do your civic duty—cast your vote, and help Mancub get a much deserved shot at the title!

HiLife says:
WOW!!!

Double Fresh indeed! What a great start to the SC monthly. I think there was double the usual attendence at Shine on 2/2. Huge thanks to the DJ’s, that dance floor was jumpin’ all night! Huge thanks to the others in the Cowboy crew that helped w/ the door and promotion.

And finally, HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who showed up. I’ve gotten so many reports back saying the just really loved the vibe. I think that’s cuz of all the love and support we get from all of you. We were able to add a decent chunk of change to the Killagirl Recovery Fund from the huge attendence and the raffling of the weekend at The Little River Inn, which was won by Leslie Bailey.

Again, thank you all for coming out and rockin’ w/ us. Can’t wait till the next one!*

*But I guess I have to, since we’ll be shakin’ yer business up at Squaw next month.

Fresh is the first Friday of each month, but not next month b/c of SnowFest. The next issue of Fresh comes out April 6th and your friendly neighborhood Shine

Luxxury MP3 blog

Posted by 8Ball Wed, 07 Feb 2007 17:31:00 GMT

Some folks may remember Bikini Wax a monthly I used to do with Baby Ryan (from Gun Club and the Spindig Happy Hour) at the old Sublounge. “Two Rooms of Whoreable Music” was the tag line, and upstairs we spin mashups, hiphop, retro, electro and whatever the fuck else we felt like, but downstairs we’d often book live acts.

We were lucky enough to have SF’s Luxxury rocked their disco noire sound for us a few times before their headed down the road to electro-stardom. But despite paparazzi strobes and the bursting champagne, Luxxury still finds ways to keep a hand extended across the velvet rope to their fans, and one example is their new Mp3 music blog, The Workout, where they introduce new and new-to-you tracks that they think you might like.
