Rovian plottings, Election party, and Fresh this Friday

Posted by 8Ball Tue, 04 Nov 2008 18:46:00 GMT

Hello Friendly Person:

First, I’m not here to remind you to vote. Unless you’ve been locked in a forgotten porta-potty somewhere in the back of a deserted warehouse in the most remote reaches of Kathmandu, you know the election is today, you know what’s at stake, and if you don’t vote it’s because you made the conscious and deliberate decision NOT to vote. You probably have a very good reason, like maybe you’re a communist dickhead assclown terrorist-hugger.

Instead, I’m going to share with you something scary I thought of this morning—something that chilled my blood and made my heart skip a beat the moment it popped in my head. What if it’s all a Rovian ploy? Think about it: Dick Cheney, Barrack Obama. Have you ever seen the two of them in the same place at the same time? What if the whole time it’s just been Cheney in an Obama suit? OK, I know it’s just a crazy paranoid delusion, but I still can’t help but wonder if Rove didn’t considered the idea at least once. Maybe he used a shrinker-ray; miniaturized Cheney and inserted him into the cockpit of an Obama-bot that he will operate for the next 4 to 8 years. Maybe he develop some kind of evil mind-transfer device, like Freaky Friday; think of the terror Obama would feel seeing the cruel and sneering face of Cheney staring back at him in the mirror while the real Cheney proceeded to dismantle the Constitution from within Obama’s skin. Spooky stuff, huh?

Right, moving on, we’ve got a couple things to share:
1) Space Cowboys are on Twitter now. Go to http://twitter.com/space_cowboys and click “Follow” and we’ll follow you back
2) Tonight Aaron Jae’s playing an election night party at Mighty (see below)
3) Friday, we’ve got myself and the Seismic crew spinning for you at Shine for the November installment of Fresh (see below)
4) Thanks to everyone who came to Ghost Ship—hopefully it’s just the first of an annual event!

xo, 8b

PS: Don’t forget to vote! :P

UPCOMING EVENTS

Tuesday, 11/4 – End of An Error @ MIGHTY
It’s the elections again, & it’s ABOUT TIME!!!!! I know the majority of you San Franciscans are hoping that soon we’ll be living in an Obama-nation, but I really must say that the last 8 years have truly been an abomination. So it’s time to CELEBRATE! Bush is going out of office, there’s no possible way he can get re-elected regardless of what happens in Florida, and this sad saga in American history is finally coming to a close.

Come join us @ Mighty where we’ll be broadcasting the election coverage throughout the club with a soundtrack provided by a bunch of amazing artists who just can’t help but celebrate the fact that there really is a light at the end of the tunnel, and yes, it’s changing colors.

In the back room we’ll have some food & snacks as well as a couple televisions setup in a more relaxing environment so that the more serious voter can catch all the election info as it comes in.

Outside, Peter (TeacherWiththeBus.com) will be bringing down his awesome bus with the dance-floor & the Ambient Mafia will be providing the music, visuals, & who knows what else.

In the main room, music will be provided by a couple SF dj’s that you know, as well as a couple that you probably should know. & we might even have a special, super secret, can’t tell you yet, out-of-town dj stop in to play, but I guess you’ll just have to come to find out.

FRIDAY, 11/7 – FRESH SEISMIC FUNK @ SHINE (hosted by Plump & Juicy Brettocks)
The November Spacecowboy’s FRESH features a lineup of recognizable turntablists ready to unleash the rocksteady rythms of nu skool funkiest – both straight beat or break beat (or maybe, if you are lucky, some gay beat). Regardless, this is a lineup to be reckoned with. After the calamity of Ghostship, bring it all back home to our monthly FRESH. This is the time to do it – celebrate the beginning of a new era of Obama. Or, have a dance-off, bringing to the dancefloor some Palin-esque hockey-mom moves or whatever ails you. You can shave RIPE into the hairy backsides of our latest SpaceCowboy inductees or just poke fun at the Spacecowpoke (me!) that is barely holding on to membership. FRESH @ SHINE is not happening in December, so this is the time to get down and shake your rump and reconnect with the core posse. A few siesmologists will be on hand to measure the evening on the richter scale of funk-tastical tasty-ness.

NEW MUSIC
Aaron Jae Live @ Priceless ‘08
Aaron says: “I know it’s been a long time since I’ve put a mix online, so I hope this doesn’t disappoint. If you’ve had a chance to hear me play in the last year, then you might not be surprised to hear the style of this mix. But if you’ve only been listening to mixes you’ve downloaded of mine, be prepared for something a bit different than you’re used to. This set was recorded while I was playing at False Profits “Priceless” campout towards the end of 2008, and since it’s an opening set, it starts out very chill. You might recognize a couple of the 1st few tracks, but after that the majority of them are fairly new. I had a ton of fun playing this set & even forgot that I was recording for a while, so there’s a bunch of little tricks, stabs, & cross-overs. I bet you can’t count them all.”

I feel like I’ve basically moved to Treasure Island… which isn’t such a bad thing, the view is amazing, there’s plenty of room, and I know all my neighbors. The one downside I’ve found is that there is no place to buy a beer…. or I should say was… cause we officially took care of that problem today, so on November 1st you can look forward to the drink of your choice! So yeah, things are moving along.

Speaking of moving, we’ve secured parking for 500 cars for the event, but please consider carpooling, taking Muni from the Transbay Terminal, a taxi, or our free shuttle from Civic Center, particularly from an ecological and safety perspective.

The haunted house is becoming frighteningly real and the GhostShip itself has appeared like a mirage in the night…. the hanger is already a sight to be seen and you won’t believe the soundsystems we’ve lined up for the 3 rooms…

We can’t wait, and neither should you, buy your tickets now at groovetickets and avoid any hassles at the door and breeze right in….

Undecideds, Obamathon, Beats for Boobs, Ghostships and more

Posted by 8Ball Wed, 08 Oct 2008 18:21:00 GMT

Hello Friendly Person:

I don’t get Undecideds. Probably because in most things I like having 2 speeds: On, off.

Ok, let’s pretend the Election is a big wild ass house party, like at the end of Weird Science, and instead of casting votes we’re really all just trying to get laid.

Some people show up to the party with a date, so they already know who they’re going home with—in fact these people could’ve just skipped the party completely and stayed home with thighs covering their ears.

There are others who show up without knowing exactly who they want to nail, but they’ve got a type. Maybe they’ve got yellow fever and they go for Asians or Gaysians, or maybe love ass. Maybe they go gooey for bangs and big sunglasses, or hairy chests and ironic beards. Whatever; the point is they know what they like, and when they see it they all over it like gravy on a biscuit.

Some people don’t have a type, they like to keep their options real wide. Let’s say they’re pansexual, and everyone at the party is looking good. This is a blessing and a curse, because they see a little sumthin-sumthin worth trying in just about everyone at the party. But let’s say these happy, adventurous people are also pragmatic, and around midnight when thepickins are at risk of thinning out, they’ll do a couple shots of tequila and hop on the next sweet thing that doesn’t move faster than they do. If it doesn’t end up working out, worst case scenario is they come back (in 4 years) and try for someone new and friskier.

But then there are people who can’t make up their fucking minds. Maybe they’re like our pansexuals – except instead of everyone at the party looking Hot, to them everyone is looking really, really Not. The party would be a lot more fun for these people if they’d drink some of that tequila. Their options would certainly start looking better. Or maybe the problem is—like the dummies on bad dating reality shows are always saying – these people are waiting for what they think of as “the complete package.” And wouldn’t that be nice? But while they’re waiting for that complete package to materialize, time’sawasting and soon the party will be over.

These people who stand around while everyone else is hooking up around them are the Electoral Undecideds. But the problem is, unlike in the party metaphor, when they don’t make the right decision everyone gets fucked.

xo, h8
