August Events! And about that thing that happens at the end of this month...

Posted by Andrea Fri, 01 Aug 2008 20:11:00 GMT

Hello Space Cowboy friends, freaks and followers!

We hope you have had a fun and relaxing summer. Staying cool and keeping warm alternatively. Hours behind the wheel for road trips, rocking out, lazing about and kicking back. That is what summer is all about!

This summer has been especially chill for most of our cowboy crew, because most of us are not heading out to Burning Man this year. Yes, this means no Unimog, no Black Rock Hoe Down, not sure about Martha, no ponies, and no Black Sabbath pancake breakfast (at least not at the Carpies front porch with the Unimog blasting Ozzy at the crack of dawn while all the BRC Rangers can do is shrug and enjoy their fruitloop topped waffles.) I will miss Sunday morning at BRC most of all.

This does not mean the Space Cowboys are dead, dying, splintering, disintegrating or any other drastic over exagerted adjective you may have heared on the rumor mills!! Are we an institution? That one kills me. Are we just a bunch of old farts? Gettin’ there! Are we lazy economically challenged tightwads too stubborn to spend our stimulus checks in northern Nevada? Not sure. Procreating gen Xers? Yeppers! Welcome babyGreen!! We may be a bunch of burrowing spring chicks sitting on eggs of hope, awaiting the windfall that will allow us the recreational advantages of limitless budgets from years past. My gut feeling is leaning towards old and lazy, with a dash of boredom and a blast of ‘what the hell else is out there to do with our hard earned and not-begged-for hard earned fund raising $$$,$$$ than blow it all on a dusty vacation with 50,000 of our best friends??’

Fear not, the Unimog and her minions will live on! Decom yes, Lovefest no, halloween maybe, and BOC resoundingly so. Our DJs haven’t melted down their vinyl (or plastic discs) in order to fill the Mog’s generators. They got to put bacon on the table just like the rest of us and are all for HIRE, and there will be ample opportunities for you to get your groove on with or without generous bass throughout the burning man season.

So have a great burn everyone. We may watch the web cast on current, or we may be in Hawaii. Chances are good we’ll be playing cards at Orange Alley, by default. Make us proud out there and REPRESENT!

All the best, Andrea
