Saturday, January 22 – 6th annual ICEBREAKERS BALL at Mighty
The Fringe Arts Collective and Sunset Promotions, the crews that undress tradition with their Freqo de Mayo, Freaksgiving and Faux Years events are aiming to chase away winter’s wicked ways with a celebration of the breakbeat in all its forms. For the 6th straight year, Orlando breaks legend DJ Icey rocks Mighty and chases away the cold with a torrent of Florida swamp gas. The oldschool, hip hop-centric, “original breaks” will be provided Motion Potion and the Space Cowboys’ 8Ball. Special guests DJ Icon, Eva (LA) and Dulce Vita make sure that the ladies have their say. The Janky Barge will be represented by Victor Vega, Tim Dietz, Mycho Cocoa, Absurge, U9Lift, and Ground Control doing everything from electro to dubstep.. Mighty will again be converted into a Winter wonderland, where parka-dressed participants, heat up the room and strip down to their bare minimums.

Known as the “King of the Funky Breaks,” Orlando native, DJ Icey (www.djicey.com, System Recordings, Zone records, Essential Mix- FL), began his spinning career with a residency at the now defunct club, the Edge. Thought to be one of the hardest working DJs in America, Icey’s nonstop touring ethic gave him plenty of time to pioneer funky breaks and launch his remix-producer career. He also made history by convincing the then unknown Chemical Brothers to play their first U.S. show on July 4th, 1993, at the Edge. Sometimes packed with breakdancers, B-boys, Ravers, Club Kids, Suburban and even Inner-city kids, the dance floor is always an eclectic group, brought together by Icey’s unique breaks. With the release of his “Essential Mix – mixed by DJ ICEY,” on his own label, Zone Records, Icey follows in the footsteps of dj greats such as Pete Tong, Fatboy Slim, and Paul Oakenfold.

ALSO with Motion Potion (myspace.com/motionpotion), DJ Icon (Illeven Eleven), Dulce Vita (Opulent Temple), 8Ball ( Space Cowboys), Victor Vega, Tim Dietz, Mycho Cocoa, Absurge, Ground Control, U9Lift

Wednesday, 2/2 – Fog City Funk @ Asiento
Usually, Fog City Funk broadcasts every Wednesday evening from inside an underground studio located somewhere in San Francisco. But every so often they like to come up to the surface and broadcast the show in front of live in studio audience. Now, when I say “every of often” I mean “once a month” and by “surface” I’m talking about Asiento on 21st & Bryant (the place with the big purple comet mural on the side…) February’s live broadcast (02.02.11) will feature Kapt’n Kirk as their guest DJ along with resident DJ and host Smoove. I’m sure they’ll be running some sort of drink special as a value added incentive to entice you to come down and join the in studio audience. Like you need any more incentive to watch Kirk and Smoove spin together for two hours. If you can’t make it to Asiento between the hours of 8p and 10p, you can always tune in at www.nsbradio.co.uk on your internet music player device.

NEW MUSIC

On the RIPECast: J-Rod Live from Breakfast of Champions 2011
Enjoy this live recording of J-Rod [DISTRIKT] from the Silent Disco at Breakfast of Champions 2011.

A few words from J-Rod on his BoC experience…..
“I was ecstatic about being asked to play at Breakfast of Champions. It’s been a longtime goal of mine. The vibe is always very fun and it’s great to meet up with everyone after all the random NYE celebrations. I hadn’t ever played a silent disco before but it turned out to be one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in my DJ career. Having everyone on headphones is both a blessing and a curse. Everyone gets to hear the slightest mistake, but they also get to hear all the interesting details of the music. It’s much easier to lose yourself in it with headphones on than with any big club system.”

“It was truly a special experience doing what I love and helping everyone celebrate the new year. A huge thanks to everyone that threw on some headphones and made it a memorable morning! Hope to play again next year!” – J-Rod

Track List
1. Eitan Reiter, A Balter – iRich (Andreas Henneberg Remix)
2. David West, Ida Engberg – Supercluster (Ida Engberg Mix)
3. Croatia Squad – Get Up
4. Jesse Voorn – Everything Is Possible (Richard_Dinsdale_Mix)
