2010: A Space Cowboys RIPECAST Odyssey

Posted by Andrea Thu, 14 Jan 2010 00:04:00 GMT

Hello Space Cowboy Friends, fans, and patient followers!

Let me be the umpteenth cowboy to thank you again for all of the amazing cooperation, gratitude, advice and suggestions for Breakfast of Champions. We had thousands of dancers and friends, dozens of DJs, millions of smiles, hefty bar tabs, and bladders of steel. Seriously, I’ve never not peed so much in my life. The sewer situation resulted in many messes. Next year we might have presale catheters and barf bags for you to drop into the bay instead of on each other. And YES – that is what Ripe stands for.

We had a lot of new aspects of the event this year: New Venue (whisper is closed, permanently), presales (which sold out, thank you), an outside DJ area (aka Murphstar’s stage), a special guest from Fingerlickin (sorry if you couldn’t make it upstairs to see Soul of Man, he rocked it) and the new partnership with Kelly’s Mission Rock for our production efforts. We kept a lot of things the same: 6AM doors open, no BOC flyers, no bus pickups, no major advertising, darker than the sun upstairs, breakfast actually served, long lines of patient party goers who respected the neighborhood and each other, and an awesome security team that kept you, me, and those guys all in line.

Luckily for all, our Breakfast of Champions is only once a year. We promise to look in to solving all the problems we faced this year, and can guarantee that 2011 BOC will be even better. We couldn’t have done anything this past decade without the support, accolades, complaints and suggestions from everyone that attends our events. Much love and gratitude for the magic that is the San Francisco underground scene! We’re still rocking it underground, just a bit older and more professional than before.

Keep an eye out for Space Cowboy DJs and Friends in and around San Francisco. We’ll try to update you best as we can, but stay tuned to our website, facebook profiles and other non tree damaging promotional efforts so we can all see each other and give those big BOC hugs year round.

I hope your year has been off to a great start.

xx
Andrea

Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 6: DJ Brad Robinson

Posted by 8Ball Tue, 05 Jan 2010 19:57:00 GMT

Space Cowboy DJ Brad Robinson has been a standout in the group for years. If you’ve seen him play a Space Cowboy party any time in the last 10 years, you’ve probably also seen a whole squadron of cute girls getting freaky in front of the decks, while this tall, skinny guy rocks out behind them. Brad’s known for bringing that old school flavor of house: big, funky, and fun.

Here’s what Brad Robinson had to say about the party:
It was so impressive walking into the Treasure Island warehouse that night to the Ghostship party. With a busy schedule this year, I didn’t have much time to help with the preparations, and couldn’t have imagined the amazing hard work and detail the SC team and friends put into this one. The energy in that warehouse during the party was pretty great as well. I think that the bridge closure required a lot of people to go through extra effort to get to Treasure Island, so we ended up with a room full of very dedicated Space Cowboy fans. There is of course nothing better :)
He played:
  1. Disco Junkie – Time to Move On
  2. Hirshee – Upside Down (Club Mix)
  3. Totally Random feat. Marcus Valentine – That Feeling (Mass Motion Remix)
  4. Paul Gardner – You Can’t Hide From Yourself (Original Phat Club Mix)
  5. Jesse Perez – Hoochie Mama
  6. Wax Master/Benjamin Shook/PM Project – Ghetto Shout Out (Benjamin Shook 2009 Mix)
  7. Hirshee – California
  8. DJ Delicious & Till West – NYPD
  9. Wolfgang Gartner – Push & Rise
  10. Pre Modelo – The Rhythm, The Rhyme (Pre Modelo Original)
  11. Wolfgang Gartner – Flashback
  12. Fatnatikz – Bringin It Back (Gramatik Mix)

The best way to say thank you is by doing it again! The Space Cowboys Show at the End Up Sat. 1/16 2

Thank you all for another amazing Breakfast of Champions! I’m sure this will be the first of many thank yous from those of us here at the ranch. It was an amazing day, and while there may have been a few bumps in the road, the overwhelming number of smiling (and often surprisingly familiar) faces always makes up for it. It was a magic day, even with not so hot weather. Being on the bay was amazing, the bartenders were great, the DJs phenomenal, and a dancing crowd full of superstars aka you.

We do apologize for the lack of restrooms. We had asked Kelley’s to provide more porta-potties, and that didn’t happen, there was nothing we could do. On the other hand the breakdown of the downstairs bathroom(s) was unforeseeable, and in their defense Kelly’s did everything they could to have them repaired. Those of you outside all morning (like myself) saw the plumbers make two separate visits working super-hard both times. It was our first time there, and rest assurred that both ourselves and the club worked tirelessly to make your BoC the best it could be!

As for the lack of Jameson, now that a different story. I assure you, that will never, ever, ever, happen again! Somehow the bar got confused, even though we had the RIPE cheerleaders doing J-A-M-E-S-O-N cheers at our planning meeting with the club, apparently the distributor thought that Bushmills would do. Foolish rabbit, Bushmills is for kids (not mine though, they deserve the good stuff)!

Now as for the line…. please, please, please, listen to us when we tell you to come early. We don’t like to have our parties so crowded they are uncomfortable, so the best way to make sure you are there for the rocking is to get there early. Capacity is capacity, and for $10 its ther best party, dollar for dollar anywhere!

So for those of you who missed it, or just can’t get enough, the Space Cowboys bring you another $10 marathon of good times! The mayhem starts at 10pm on Saturday January 16th and goes until 6am on Sunday the 17th, with ins-n-outs until 9am! Just RSVP at www.sesnsesf.com/show. Get to the End Up at 10pm and you’ve got another 8hrs of your favorite Space Cowboy djs rocking you all night.

Many of your favorite SC djs are going to be playing early on in the night (to make room for our new crop of rock-stars)...
I’m not joking when I say you want to be there before 11pm… Please no complaining when you miss what should have been your favorite set of 2010. Last year the place got bumpin, so be sure to show up super-early to avoid any lines and get your drink & groove on!

with SC DJs (in no particular order & subject to change):
Kapt’n Kirk
8ball
Mancub
Rrrus
Ernie Trevino
Aaron Jae
Shissla
shOOey
Deckard
Pickles
Zach Moore

Also, please remember this is the End Up, it’s physically one of the the coolest venues I know; you can dance outside on a heated deck (while smoking even), they have a pool-table, a fireplace, a fire-pit, hell they even have a freakin’ waterfall. They also have one of the strictest security policies out there, So please bring your proper IDs, and do not try to bring anything illicit into the club (even in that small pocket in your jeans). There are certain things you should do before leaving your house, like going to the bathroom! Did I mention that we’ll have INS-N-OUTS until 9am?

See you next Saturday!!!
