Global Threat! Plus upcoming events from Space Cowboys and Friends
Hello Friendly Person:
I’d like to talk to you today about a pernicious and ubiquitous threat that we live with on a daily basis, so much so that most of us have developed a blind spot to its presence. We proceed with our lives, our daily communications, obliviously to the fact that we are precariously balanced on dark precipice from which the fall is long, painful, and damning. Most of you have figured it out by now, but for those whose blind spots have grown too complete I’ll be blunt… this threat is called “Reply All.”
Allow me to illustrate with a recent anecdote from my inbox. The names have been anonymized to protect those who have suffered enough already.
I’m supposed to go to a big wedding in Mexico next week. Let’s call the wedding party “Mr. S” & “Miss Future-Mrs.-S.” As you can imagine, there has been a lot of back and forth with the wedding party about the risk of Swine Flu. Luckily, there haven’t been any outbreaks in the resort area where the wedding is to be held, and yesterday “Mr. S” sent out a group email to that affect, along with a number of well-advised health & safety tips. Several wedding attendees replied to “Mr. S’s” email, suggesting that given the wedding’s guest list, Swine Flu might be the least of the group’s concerns. This was about the level of replies until an attendee (whom I will call “ADAM”) replied:
Fuck that virus, and the swine it rode in on. Ain't stopping me, plus I have a secret antidote which I'm planning to mix up and serve in a cocktail that'll kill any bug. I call it the Tijuana Double Rubber. After waking up on the beach with sand in your ass after drinking a bunch of these, the Swine Flu will feel like a Thai massage with a happy ending.
A reply from the groom, “Mr. S,” soon followed:
"ADAM," Thanks for the support and words of encouragement. Our parents (CC'ed) can't wait to meet you and try one of your fancy cocktails! - "Mr. S" and "Miss. Future-Mrs.-S."
Most people who know me are probably thinking it, so I’ll clarify now: I am not ADAM. But like you, I couldn’t help but think how easily I could’ve been ADAM. But what I couldn’t have done is come up with ADAM’s very-nearly graceful retort:
Oopsies! Lo siento parents of bride and groom...looks like I already put my hoof in my snout, and haven't even packed my tanning lotion yet. Despite my risque commentary, I really am a good kid (kind of)....think Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer.
So, BEWARE of the REPLY ALL! It’s just as dangerous as it ever was.

Saturday, June 6th – 7th ANNUAL ROCK PAPER SCISSORS TOURNAMENT with ROSHAMBO WINERY at CORNERSTONE (Sonoma)
Space Cowboys will be bring the Mog and the music to this year’s Rock Paper Scissors Tournament, and just like last year it promises to be another great Day event (hence keeping with the theme of this edition of the announcement)!
Naomi from Roshambo says:
To hoards of Bay Area faithful, early June signals the most outrageously fun sporting event of the year… Roshambo Winery’s annual Rock, Paper, Scissors Championship. The winery’s signature event will be held at their tasting room at Cornerstone-Sonoma on Saturday, June 6th, and like every year, is expected to draw hundreds of people throwing fists and fingers for their slice of the $1700 pie. Last year’s tournament drew 256 competitors and hundreds of spectators – from as far as Sydney , Tazmania, Toronto, Tokyo , D.C. and New York . “It’s a great excuse to get dressed up, slip into character, and celebrate life,” says Roshambo’s president and self-proclaimed “Wine Hero,” Naomi Brilliant. “Especially in times like these.”

NEW MUSIC
One Space Cowboys’ favorite DJs and breaks producers has a banging new remix out this week. Marcello de Angellis aka Plaza de Funk imprinted his funky style over the Groove Diggerz new track “Funky Heroes” (Breakin Even Records). Everyone knows that Funk increases exponentially, and that means this track actually contains more Funk that the law allows. Luckily there are bigger problems around the world these days, otherwise Interpol would be all over this shit.
You can sample and buy the track on Beatport

“Do It Like That” from J9 and Bassben
Most times when couples start getting all hot and heavy, you wanna holler, “Get a frickin’ room!” But this new collaboration from one of Space Cowboys favorite couples is one of the few forms of acceptable PDA, and now they want to share it with you!
New Music from H/8Ball…
Here’s another generous portion of mostly drum and bass (with a handful of surprises layered into the sandwich like bacon and peperoncini). The inspiration for this one is that big bright thing that coincidentally showed upright when the weather started getting real nice.
Here’s the mix: http://spacecowboys.org/files/DnB_in_the_Sunshine_(April_2009).mp3
