"Funk and Disco for Santa" mix from 8ball 2

Posted by 8Ball Thu, 24 Dec 2009 19:03:00 GMT

Here’s a small holiday present from me, and you don’t have to wait until tomorrow to listen. It’s a lot of new school funk, a bit of old school house, and some disco—stuff you don’t hear out at parties all that often, but when you do, you think, “Aw yeah, make some room on the dance floor.” Or maybe you don’t, what the hell do I know.

Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 6: Zach Moore Kramer

Posted by 8Ball Fri, 11 Dec 2009 18:25:00 GMT

If you were rockin’ the “Treasure Chest” room at Ghost Ship from about 3:00 AM onwards you may have done a double take after seeing a taller, better-looking version of me behind the decks. Now, I’d love to take credit for the tasty beats that had us all begging for more even after security pulled the plug at 4 AM sharp. But all the credit goes to our pal, Kramer, who as far as I’m concerned (and granted I’m a little biased) also pulled off one of the more memorable costumes of the evening (see photo).

Zach Moore and Fake Zach Moore

To most of you Kramer needs no introduction. He has been a fixture in the SF Dance community for over fifteen years and is a core member of The Deep End camp at Burning Man. Kramer is also, and please pardon the baseball analogy, the DJ equivalent of the “clean-up hitter” (which is one of several reasons I’ve nicknamed him “Yaz”, a reference to his favorite player while growing up in Connecticut). And if you’ve ever experienced one of his legendary Saturday afternoon closing sets at The Deep End, you’ll understand why that analogy fits. Yes. Kramer “swings the heavy lumber”, as they say, and we were thrilled to have him in one of the closing slots at Ghost Ship this year. Enjoy Boys and Girls!
