Hello Friendly Person:

I know everyone just got back from the playa, and travel planning might be a ways off, but just in case, I wanted to share with you this extra-special travel guide that was put together by Space Cowboy DJ Mancub. See, he’s a former New Orleans local and when he heard his buddies were heading to Nawlins for a weekend he wanted to make sure they did the town right. Here’s what he said (and skip down for UPCOMING EVENTS):

MANCUB’S GUIDE TO NEW ORLEANS

Grab a Gambit (Nola’s Guardian). Check out the live music events.
Snag a map or rock your iPhone. Nawlins is flat and in a perfect square shaped downtown. It’s called the Big Easy for a reason.
Drinks….Get you ass to the Quarter.
Port of Call on esplanade. order at bar “to go” cocktails. FYI…At every bar there are plastic cups by the exit, no bottles on street, careful with public urination…only in a pinch, most places you can walk in and go without purchasing shit.
Port of Call has great burgers and baked potatoes the size of a new born. I usually get a Monsoon….really packs a punch. Don’t down this cocktail or you are in trouble. Pass that shit around and walk towards Bourbon street. Roam all around that shit. Walk down Bourbon.

Food
1. Remoulade’s (309 bourbon) the poboys, red beans and rice, turtle soup are dynamite!! Classic Nawlins Rest…off the hook
2. Acme Oyster Bar (724 Iberville/ royal st.) poboys, jambalaya, oysters, dixie, abita beer, hot sauce….very nice.

I usually buy an order of jambalaya to go and eat that shit late night. Not a whole lot of food late night since Katrina

Broussards or Antoine’s are my top 2 selecta’s for Big Dinner night. Both in French Quarter.

Nawlin’s is known for its muffalatta’s (Central Grocery on Decatur st) this place closes at 4pm(bullshit) but has dope sandwiches. Put one in the backpack and eat later.
Krystal burgers…. cheap 12 pack sliders (think White castle)
Cafe Du Monde….beignets with powdered sugar. open late night…people watching!! during the day its touristy

Sunday Jazz Brunch= Palace Cafe. enough said

Adventure
airboatadventure.com Take the Fan boat tour….sooo dope. They pick you up from hotel or rest. drive you to the swamps and back in time for drinks/dinner. So efff’n worth it.
Or, just sight see the quarter. I do that shit drunk though

Night Life
1. Maple Leaf(uptown off Carrollton…8316 Oak st) this place is sooo dope, been in tons of music video’s/movies…awesome outdoor patio action. Local live music…very Nawlins….Really Nice roach coach, The Maple Leaf is a package deal though. You must walk a few blocks after the show to
2. Snake and Jake’s (7612 Oak st) BTW it’s MY FAVORITE BAR EVER. Lots to see and do but I kick it here almost every night.
3. Tipitina’s is a Nawlin’s staple. more eklectic than House of Blues
4. House of Blue’s only go here if there is a certain show you wanna see.
5. The Dungeon off bourbon…killer dive bar, creepy hallway with an interesting patio.

There are so many dive bars and places I discover wandering

French Market off Decatour has cool outdoor shops for crap shoppin. 2 pair sunglasse for $5, T-shirt deals, alligator heads, mardi gras beads…so many side streets with cool clothing shops, bars and vintage military shit. Magazine st is the ultimate shopping street…..the whole street has cool bars and shops.
Jackson Square has some great spots to take pictures….walk to the Levee….enjoy the clean Mississippi river

Don’t
1. Drink a Hurricane anywhere….especially from Pat O’briens
2. Drink a hand grenade from Tropical Isle
3. enter Tropical Isle or Margarrita Ville
4. tour 9th ward
5. seek Vodoo…..dumb
6. cruise the levee at night

Remember you can drink anywhere so take advantage of that shit.

XO,
DJ Mancub
