Hello Friendly Person:

The other day I was trying to describe this
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1OBjjBxHto) crazy video of Dungeons
and Dragons geeks acting out one of their adventures to one of my
friends. The whole thing is so hysterically, shamefully, embarrassingly
over the top, from the dude hoisting pole with a monster head on the
top staggering around like a wounded troll to the chubby, balding
"wizard" tossing little pebbles while intoning his "Lightning Bolt!"
incantation. After I explained it, making sure to paint the whole
sordid geeky picture for my friend -- the costumes, the role playing,
the fantasy world they were pretending to live in -- my friend says,
"So how what they were doing any different from Burning Man? I mean, at
Burning Man people wear costumes, they assume new roles and identities
-- I mean, Hello? H8ball? -- and the only difference between BRC and
Middle Earth is that the fairies at Burning Man do more drugs. What's
the difference?"

I was about to argue that Burning Man doesn't have dragons, sword
fighting, and "Lightning Bolts!", but then I remembered Drako, Thunder
Dome, and Dr. Megavolt. I was stumped. OMG, what IS the difference
between Burning Man and live action role playing? The answer, I
realized, is there is NO difference. And given that, I think it's time
we formalized some of the rules of our Burning Man Role Playing Game.
First, we need to start referring to ourselves by our levels and
classes. For example, I'm pretty sure I'm an 11th Level DJ... Maybe
you're a 5th Level Firespinner? Newbies love bunnies are basically 1st
Level Hippies, many volunteers at the gate are Greeters ranging from
3rd to 10th level. Rangers are still just Rangers, godbless 'em. And if
you find yourself roaming the playa year after year shouting
through a megaphone chances are you're a 4th Level Douchebag.

The system still needs to be fleshed out, but you get the general idea.
The cool thing is, once we get the rules nailed down, people won't
actually have to go to BRC any more -- they'll be able to play Burning
Man at home with their friends. Just think, all the fun, none of the
dust or driving -- No Geek Left Behind!

And did I mention I'm playing on Saturday at the Opel party? More details below...

xo,
h8b

Saturday 6/28 & Sunday 6/29 - SF Pride 2008
Pure Evil is doing sound for one of the lead floats at this year's Pride Pride... He forwarded this info about Pride weekend:

"No city blurs gender/sexuality lines like San Francisco. As the most
tolerant city in the nation, the "Gay Mecca" of America makes it easier
to be proud of who you are (and to be hit on by a tranny). The Pride
Parade started in 1970 as a "Gay-in" to commemorate the Stonewall
Rebellion of New York's Greenwich Village, and has grown into one of
the world's largest and most well known LGBT pride celebrations. With
California's gay marriage legalization, 2008 is becoming a big
homo-victory year. We're here, we're queer... and gay is here to stay!"

Sat. 12-6pm @ Civic Center
Sun. 10:30am @ Parade along Market St.
