Hello Friendly Person:

For once, wouldn't it be nice if the awful, unfair, scary shit that sometimes comes up in life could be embodied by a big ugly supervillian or professional wrestling character? At least then we'd have the opportunity to take a swing at the bastard. Sure, Dr. Global-Warming would outweigh any of us by metric fucktons, and sure we'd have to get past his glacier-melting heat rays before we could get out hands around his throat, but it'd be worth the risk just to have some physical to throttle for once. Instead of feeling helpless, powerless and frustrated before a threat you only observe by the ubiquitous shadow it casts. Give me something to hit, dammit! But in lieu of going toe-to-toe the best we can do is try to live with a smaller footprint, recycle and turn off some lights. A few years back we threw the Tumor Lounge party to raise some cash and build some support for a couple friends in our group who were getting reamed by that evil fucking bastard. If
there'd been a Tumor Man for us to target, though, it would've been hella clobberin' time. But fundraising and crossing our fingers was the best we could do. And it's time to do it again -- below you'll see some info about a fundraising event for one of our community members who's wrestling with serious medical issues right now. Hopefully people will help with this fight, either by coming to Shine on Sunday, by donating (via link below), or just sending some good thoughts Otto's way.

Less altruistically, but still certainly worth your while are a slew of other events in the hopper for this weekend: Mancub at Mighty on Friday (10/19), 8ball playing FiX at Shine on Saturday (10/20), and lots more...

And don't forget to GET TICKETS for Space Cowboys' Halloween party at Temple on Saturday, 10/27!

Right, XO,

Saturday, October 20th - FiX @ SHINE

The FiX Boyz says:
"Yo peepz, It's October, so if you're like us, you're digging through your Halloween box trying to piece together something that can pass as a Halloween costume. So, while you're digging, set aside your fake moustaches, aviator sunglasses, headbands, and bad-70's-hairdo-wigs, and get out your bellbottoms and (ladiez) your tube tops, because for October FiX, we're takin' it back to the Dirk Diggler era for our very own 70's/80's Boogie Nights-esque theme party! Our headliner DJ for the night is 8ball (Space Cowboys) - he's just back from the playa where he floored us with some seriously funky, fresh, electroey, gritty, dirty, yummy, edgy house music. Also joining us on the decks will be poolboy & d (4handed), the dynamic duo that brings SF so many unique and wonderful events ( definitely check them out - www.tasty-music.com , www.swapsf.com ) and their sound is as cool and sexy as they are.

So squeeze dat azz into some bellbottoms and come shake it wit us!"
9:00pm - 10:45pm poolboy & d (4handed)
10:45pm - 12:15am 8ball (Space Cowboys)
12:15am - 2:00am Scottino (FiX, www.djscottino.com)

Saturday, October 20th - pARTicipate @ SomArts GALLERY
pARTicipate is the most interactive art party in SF - it is a celebration of art in many manifestations: it exposes affordable work from emerging visual
artists to adventurous collectors, introduces new music and builds community among folks with unique sensibilities a little left of center.

Most importantly, pARTicipate is predicated on a group art project that every guest is encouraged to contribute to in their own way. This project later becomes a large mixed media installation we auction off to local non-profits...but not just any kind of non-profit, only those that cultivate or enable kids in SF to experience art and the creative process.
With DJs
Shissla (pARTicipate, House of Lotus)
ShOOey (The DeepEnd)
Prof. Pickles (Space Cowboys)

8pm to Midnight
$7 Donation, $5 for ArtSpan members
@ SomArts Gallery - 934 Brannan Street (btw 8th & 9th)

Saturday/Sunday, October 20th/21st - Outdoor Party People (O.P.P.) - All Day/All Night
Outdoor Party People (aka 'Bigtime' camp of Burning Man) is returning to the Mojave Desert for some beautiful bad-ass musique and rocking out. A few are traveling out on Friday night, with most folks traveling there by Saturday and rocking out until Sunday afternoon. The location is private and legal - the views are gorgeous - north of Kramer's Junction, east of the city of Mojave.

The music talent will be ass-kicking:
DirtyBird Records, including Chris Martin (there is an unconfirmed rumor that Justin Martin will be there - the Martin brothers tag-team extravaganza)
Brett Pinkin of SEISMIC - seismicsf.org - and contributor to SpaceCowboys
Addison Gronquist, Sean Van Den Heuvel, Adam Richards, and a whole crew of other fabulously famous and trashy people.

Call Brett Pinkin at (415) 990-5433 or email brettpinkin at hotmail.com if you need directions or more info. The soundsystem will be both the O.P.P. system (aka 'Bigtime') and DirtyBird.

Donations are appreciated and accepted.

Sunday Oct 21st (early start - 4PM) - Benefit for Otto @ SHINE
Otto Schutt is a big man with a little tumor that is going to be removed from his intestine on Friday. They cut him open last week to check out his appendix saw that was fine and thought it was all just a nasty infection. The biopsy results came back Monday and unfortunately the doctors found the tumor is malignant (the bad kind) and I don't know the prognosis but your prayers and support will help.

The cost is $30,000 for the surgery and there is no insurance. We are doing a little fundraiser to help defer the cost. Can't even count the number of fundraisers brother Schutt has lead in our community.

We will be gathering at Shine on October 21st to do what Otto would want us to do most...dance. Count on guest DJs, Jack and Ginger drink specials, and a gathering of folks that love him most. Please bring your favorite picture of Otto for a book we are putting together.

In the event you can't make it; please consider a little donation
To PayPal: randomleekind at yahoo.com

If you'd like to send a check please send it to

Friday, November 2nd - FRESH PRESENTS: THE SLOE DOWN @ SHINE
After the madness and mayhem of Halloween, we're bringing it down a notch for November's installment of FRESH. Deep within his underground lair, Ernie Trevino (aka E.T.) has been secretly concocting some otherworldly downtempo beats that he's ready to unleash on the masses, and our good friend from False Profit, Dr. Toast is dropping new tracks from his forthcoming CD! We've also got Robb Green and Uncle Larry heating up the dance floor, and DJJD slowing it down with midtempo crunk.

We're going to give all the money we collect at the door to a dear friend of our community, Otto Schutt, who was recently diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing intensive medical treatment. If you can't make it out to show your support, you can make a donation via the website: www.ottoschutt.com.

Lineup:
E.T. (Space Cowboys) 12:45 – 1:45
Dr. Toast (False Profit) 11:45 – 12:45
