[SpaceCowboys-Announce] Happy St. Patrick's Day (aka Mighty Breaks, Cowboy Mixes, a tale from the toilet and more...)

Hello Friendly Person:

Once in a while you find yourself in a awkward
situation with another person where social rules don't
adequately spell out your appropriate response. For
example, someone unknowingly cuts in front of you. If
it's on the highway you flip them off, if it's in a
roller rink you have a skate off, but if it's in the
line for coffee, then what? You don't want to be the
asshole who says, "Hey, there's a line." But turning
the other cheek isn't exactly satisfying either.
Flicking a booger in their hair while they're placing
their order is an other option... Which to choose?
Here's another example that happened to me recently at
work. Natured called, as it did, and I went to answer
the call in the 2 stall bathroom that is woefully,
nauseatingly under ventilated considering the amount
of use the facility gets. (Anyone know how much
traffic a bathroom serving 50 men sees in a day?) I'd
just stepped into the free stall when the guy in the
next stall let out a moan. Awkward. I almost buckled
back up and left, but my neighbor was quiet again for
long enough to make me think he was done. Boy was I
wrong. I'd just past the point of no return when he
let out a series of deep, emotional moansthe kind
of moans you'd expect to find echoing in the halls
outside of a torture chamber. And then he started
stomping his feet, too. It's not uncommon to exchange
words with the gentleman using an adjacent urinal, but
I've never uttered a word under the door of a stall
before, and never has one been spoken under the door
to me. But with the moans, the stomps, and now grunts,
I just couldn't pretend not to hear. "You alright?" I
asked, expecting a reply like, "Mission burrito, but
I'll make it." Instead, nothing, then more moans,
stomps, you get the picture. There were only two of us
in the bathroom, and I spoke quite clearly; unless
this movement of his was so tumultuous it had deafened
him, this guy was blatantly ignoring me.
Unfortunately, I could not return the favor, I mean,
what if he was dying in there? "Uh?" I asked. And
again, no reply. I decided not to ask a third time,
even though at this point I was a little ticked off.
It's not like I was trying to interrupt the guyby
making so much noise he'd made his predicament
impossible to ignore, and invited my inquiry. As I
walked out my former neighbor gave another painful
grunt, and I smiled thinking, "Good," and hoping it
burned.
